This is a curated scrapbook of some things I am consuming. Inspirations, if you will.

- The Connections That Turned a Precocious Teen Into the Fallen ‘Nostradamus of AI’
- This is where I first became aware of Leopold Aschenbrenner. Since then, I've been having a lot of fun reading through the thought pieces he and his friends have created.
- What I learned at Venmo
- "While recruiting, they were constantly on the hunt for that special something that pointed to immense potential. What cool stuff have they built in their own time? What are their hobbies? Are they left-handed? If you threw them in a tiger pit, would they stand a chance?"
- Learn to Implement Papers: Beginner's Guide
- An insightful high-level overview about recreating papers. It highlights the value of recreating older, highly-cited, seminal works: exposure to fundamental concepts, highly reproducible, relative simplicity. It also provides a brief analysis of each paper's sections, highlighting which areas to focus on/skim.
- A link at the bottom of the post references a longer version which contains how the author used this process on the original word2vec paper.
- What I Learned Getting Acquired by Google
- So many interesting nuggets of information in this one. What was eye-opening for me was how many parallels there were between the descriptions of Google culture and that of my own company. It also contains anecdotes about people who successfully/unsuccessfully navigated the company organization to pursue their goals.
- AI's Research Rut
- In a world where AI is increasingly prevalent, it becomes more important than ever for people from diverse backgrounds to help shape the future of AI.
- Breaking into Industry ML/AI Research Without a PhD
- My biggest takeaway from this is that deep learning can be learned through reproducing papers and participating in Kaggle competitions, which sounds challenging but has helped me understand what I can focus on.
- David also discusses some fears he has about switching careers, namely opportunity cost and potential failure. However, he copes with this by reminding himself about his long-term career goals and his abilities.
- Kiva Systems: Three Engineers, Hundreds of Robots, One Warehouse
- A story about the power of friendships, circumstances that inspire innovation, innovations that enable novel solutions, building a culture, sourcing talent, enginereing under constraints, and algorithms.
- Criticism of web3 by Eric Cheng
- I played around with NFTs and cryptocurrencies during the COVID pandemic, along with a few of my college friends. I often wondered what the Web3 hype was all about and struggled to answer that question. Years later, I came across this piece which directly addresses some web3 concerns. The analysis counters claims made by some web3 evangelists.
